Direct answer: 5930. The villager Edwin asks you for “the four sacred numbers of the Dark One”. You are not meant to count anything — the number is written on a record in the mall offices. On the Steam forum players describe that record as “a journal entry… in a drawer in the mall offices” and “a wall note in the mall offices”, while on Reddit it is called “the torn scripture one”. Take the number back to Edwin to claim the reward.

Who Edwin is

Edwin is one of the nine main characters, living in the house with the lit porch light, on the left of the bus stop in the north-west of town. His character explains the town better than most: he mentions he had to put his skin back on, “since nowhere in Elderfield was hiring skeletons”. That is exactly why players take his questions seriously — he tends to know things nobody else says out loud.

Where the clue is

The clue is a written record in the mall offices. Two Steam forum players independently describe it as a journal entry in a drawer and a wall note, and a Reddit player adds the “torn scripture” framing. In practice that means you need to reach the mall offices before you can solve it. Public sources never confirm the exact drawer or wall, so this page reports the community description and does not invent coordinates.

What the answer gives you

RewardStats
Ritual Blade +3Attack +14, Magic attack +10, Agility +8, Max MP +3; Max HP −2, Defense −2, Magic defense −4; element Insanity, +5% hit chance

It is a strong ritual sword available early, the Insanity attack element is useful for targeted builds, and it costs no rare materials — the kind of reward you should simply collect on the way past.

Why you see other numbers

9530 and 9350 do circulate. The record is a damaged, handwritten page, so players misread or mistranscribe the digits. Every verifiable source points at 5930: multiple Reddit players reply “5930 was it for me” and “5930 for me”, and Neoseeker’s equipment table lists the reward line against the source “Answer 5930 when Edwin asks for the four sacred numbers in town”. If you see another number, suspect the transcription before you suspect the game.

What players say

The puzzle is well known precisely because the answer gets misread:

  • Steam forum player weezasue on the source: “It is from a journal entry. I think you find it in a drawer in the mall offices.” Another player adds that it is “a wall note in the mall offices”.
  • Multiple Reddit players independently confirm the number: “5930 was it for me.” and “5930 for me; I think Edwin, or the dark gods may be dyslexic.” The second half is a player joke, not game lore.
  • Others posted 9530 or 9350 and were corrected — they had misread the torn scripture. If you find a different number, check the transcription first, because the game does not give several answers.

The above is player feedback, not official documentation.

Boundary and unknowns

This page only covers the four sacred numbers. The general investigation system and its location checklist live in the mysteries guide, and the TV buried-treasure tips are on their own page. Public sources never fully explain what triggers Edwin’s question, and reward values can change with patches.
